Helpful Tips to Housing Community Boards
After the long winter we've just had, some helpful hints for community boards and board member friends who are not yet Star Green customers.
With the excessive snowfall we have had this past season, combined with the extended growing warm season of last fall, our lawns and plants will be in greater need of lawn fertilization and feeding of landscape plants. We must remember to use extreme caution come early spring not to overly stimulate plant lushness and growth with excessive fertilization treatments. Early spring fertilization followed by lush growth, and then a cold snap and snow fall can result in weakened plants and fungus problems to the turf. We would recommend a half rate application of fertilizer only after what is perceived to be last snow fall. Follow this with a second half rate application a few weeks later.
It is also imperative to remember that many companies who rely on spring fertilization and weed control will be looking to get income flowing in quickly. Please don't fall for these tactics. We see time and time again, every spring, companies who put their wallet before results, applying pesticides in an untimely manner to increase cash flow. Just remember, mother nature does not go by a calendar. Soil temp, air temp, and pest growth should be the only thing that dictates a treatment. If you need more advice or information, please feel free to contact us and we would be more than happy to help you in making decisions.
Sincerely,
The Staff of Star Green
